Message from a Deb Gitzel, RN BScN CHPCA(c)and Palliative Resource Nurse

I have been the Palliative Resource Nurse for Stettler and surrounding areas for the past 15 years. During that time, I have been part of the various health care teams that have served patients and families in acute care, home care and continuing care settings.

According the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, hospice palliative care strives to help patients and families: address physical, psychological, spiritual and practical issues, and helps prepare and manage self-determined life closure and the dying process. It is care that aims to relieve suffering and improve quality of living and dying.

As each patient and family have unique needs and wishes, it is important to provide different settings to meet those needs. I believe that having designated hospice palliative room in Stettler Points West Living would provide another valuable option for the residents of Stettler and surrounding areas who are facing end of life.
